Yes, sadly summer is drifting away. BUT ... on a lovely day it is still great to hop out for a fresh lunch. I think this design, available in 6 colors , is brilliant because of its mobility and it is a healthier option.

RADIUS DESIGN : BBQ and camp fire 'romanticism'

 The German brand Radius have designed this sleek BBQ/grill/ fire pit . Yet I am not entirely sure the text used to promote it does not lack a bit of romantic umpff!:

 »fireplate« is a practical, atmospheric fireplace for outdoor use  , used in conjunction with the optional barbecue grill it allows food to be prepared directly over an open fire in the traditional manner.The grill with a diameter of 50 cm is made of stainless steel and is available for both large versions of the »fireplate«.

 

Outdoor home entertaining : recreate a 'drive in' movie spirit

I saw this on MSNC.com... how to have a great movie evening with very very basic equipement.What you need is a projector ( they suggest borrowing it from the office???) and ... a  white sheet .I will test it with a bunch of kids and if I survive I ll report back !

If you want a little higher end set up then go for the Epson MovieMate 72 with screen etc

Turn on BBQ 2 Go by The design house

I will admit that many designers and brands seem to develop products for sort of unreal people living in surreal houses under incredible climates...and then you have designers like Henrik Pedersen or brands like The Design House . A quick visit to their site is a way to get a great sense of how urban outdoors can become a great place whatever the heat level, the space...They have a range of mobile heaters, BBq's, patio heaters and furniture that I really like and the feel they convey is warm and real!

 

Outdoor cooking with soul: Koe

I am a firm believer that outdoor space is  not just an extension to the home but a space to add new experiences to daily urban life.

This probably explains why I find this Finnish design fabulous. Koe is a concept kitchen  with various elements , designed with a single goal : create a 'kitchen ' that increases social involvement in homes

One element is a low table with integrated fire that allows one to sit, prepare and share food in a rather unique and most certainly inspiring way.

The concept includes a fan and umbrella to manage the wind and leverage the experience through the feel and smell. Finally his vertical garden on a movable U-shaped wall that also serves as a room divider or a screen. The plants grow in earth-filled pots attached to the screen. Bringing the garden inside the apartment gives us a chance to grow our own vegetables.
